For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Marin Benoit, a finalist at the 2025 YMCA National Long Course Championship, is set to swim for Colgate University in New York beginning in the fall of 2026.
“I am beyond excited and grateful to announce my commitment to further my academic and swimming career at Colgate University! The biggest thank you to my parents and sister who have always supported me, as well as Coach Bucceri and Coach Mario who have always pushed me to be my best. Lastly, I’d like to thank God for getting me to the place I am today. I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing team! GO ‘GATE!”
A senior at Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut, Benoit has competed for her school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her sophomore year after attending and swimming for Westminster School her freshman year. She also currently trains year-round with Farmington Valley YMCA Tsunami, where she specializes in free, back, fly and IM.
While swimming for Loomis Chaffee, Benoit has earned a second swim at the NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council) Division I Championships two years in a row. At the 2025 championships this past March, Benoit took 5th in the 100 fly (57.99) after posting a season-best time of 57.80 during prelims. She also placed 10th in the 100 back (1:00.14) and helped her team to a 5th-place finish in the 200 medley relay and a 6th-place finish in the 400 free relay.
A few weeks later, Benoit posted another series of strong performances at the YMCA National Short Course Championships. She contested the 100 back (59.69 – SB), 100 fly (58.41) and 200 IM (2:10.59 – SB). Additionally, she clocked a personal best in the 50 free (25.19) and a season-best in the 100 free (54.34) as the leadoff on both the 200 free relay and 400 free relay, respectively.
More recently, Benoit raced at the YMCA National Long Course Championship over the summer, where she earned a second swim in one event and turned in three lifetime best times. She placed 24th in the 50 fly (29.86), 42nd in the 100 fly (1:07.54 – SB), 50th in the 200 IM (2:32.46 – SB), 66th in the 100 back (1:10.03 – SB) and 80th in the 100 free (1:02.66 – SB). Benoit was also the leadoff on five relays, logging lifetime bests in the 50 free (28.63), 100 free (1:01.99) and 50 back (32.62) and a season-best in the 200 free (2:17.12).

To earn a second swim at the 2025 championship, it took times of 52.28/1:54.72 in the 100/200 free, 57.70 in the 100 back, 56.90 in the 100 fly and 2:07.44 in the 200 IM. Based on these results, Benoit would have landed in the ‘C’ final in the 200 free and been outside the cutoff in each of her other top events.
On Colgate’s team itself, Benoit would have ranked 3rd in the 100 fly and 200 IM, 4th in the 100 back, 5th in the 200 free and 7th in the 100 free last season, putting her in position to be a strong contributor for the Raiders.
In anticipation of her arrival on campus next fall, Benoit said: “I am excited to attend Colgate University next fall to challenge myself in the classroom and the pool.”
Benoit was named a Connecticut Scholar Athlete in 2024 and 2025 and received the Loomis Chaffee School Coaches Award for the 2024-2025 season.
The full list of recruits currently set to join Benoit in the pool next fall includes Alex Scime, Jessie Wolf, Eloise Durham, Hailey Hammond and Amelia Starr, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
