Denver Broncos look to exploit Carolina Panthers defense with new defensive coordinator ...Middle East

The Denver Broncos will look to exploit the Carolina Panthers defense and new defensive coordinator Todd Wash this week.

Wash replaced former Broncos assistant coach Ejiro Evero, who was fired this week.

That’s good news for Denver.

Denver Broncos will look to exploit the Carolina Panthers defense

The Panthers defense is awful.

They’re giving up 27.6 points per game, which is 28th in the NFL. They are also basically the worst rush defense in the NFL today. Carolina gives up 140.7 rush yards per game, ranking 30th, and their 12 rushing touchdowns allowed are most in the league.

If Denver were to ever have a huge rushing day, it’s this Sunday in Carolina.

The Panthers terrible at stopping the run, and on top of that their new defensive coordinator says they may mistakes. Which is likely.

“We are gonna play hard, fast and physical,” Wash said to the press this week. “If we make mistakes, we’re gonna do it a million miles an hour.”

The Panthers making mistakes at a “million miles an hour” sounds great if you’re the Denver Broncos.

The NFL is a game of inches; often a small mistake by the defense can result in a huge gain or a touchdown by the opposing offense.

Trying to play fast and guess which gap an opposing running back is going to hit could turn into an explosive run for Jonah Coleman or J.K. Dobbins. The same goes for passing plays, but even more amplified since they’re already attacking downfield instead of running through the line of scrimmage.

Wash’s assertion that they’re going to play fast and make mistakes means the Broncos offense should be able to find success for a third straight week.

Jonah Coleman is on fire

Since returning from the IR, Jonah Coleman has been on fire.

He’s been the Broncos best back and it’s not close.

Against the Arizona Cardinals two weeks ago, he rushed 9 times for 54 yards. That was a wonderful 6.0 yards per carry average which included a 15 and a 12-yard run. Those explosives are something the Broncos running game has been missing all year long. He also caught two balls for 15 yards in the blowout win over Arizona.

Last week was the best game of his NFL career to date, though.

Coleman not only ran well but his exciting catch-and-run for 51 yards set the Broncos up for the game-winning score, which he carried into the end zone.

Coleman ran 11 times for 51 yards in the win over the Chiefs, a more modest 3.7 yards per carry average which is more in line with Denver’s current 3.8 YPC run game. But he also caught four balls, mostly as a safety blanket to Bo Nix with RJ Harvey on IR for the first week of his tenure away from the team.

And then came the play of the game.

Nix rolled out to the right and found Coleman leaking out of the backfield. The rookie running back turned up field, then cut inside to lose a defender right when Troy Fanklin laid a great block. Then Coleman was off to the races, eventually being brought down at the 4 yard line.

It was the Broncos biggest play of the day in terms of yards gained, and was their best play because it came with time running out. Denver could’ve settled for a field goal on that drive, but the 51-yard play set them up with the touchdown.

This week, Coleman will likely set a new standard for the best game in his career.

And don’t be surprised if Dobbins breaks one or two explosive runs himself.

Denver (6-2) vs. Carolina (3-4) face off on the east coast at 11 a.m. MT on Sunday, Nov. 8. The Panthers are coming off back-to-back losses while the Broncos have won four straight. Another win would make it five in a row just in time for Denver’s bye week.
