Yeah, the Chicago Blackhawks remained winless on the road last night. They avoided a shutout with a late goal from rookie Roman Kantserov, but the Lightning had already built a comfortable four-goal lead.
GOAL: Roman Kantserov keeps his point streak alive by tallying his 8th of the season. pic.twitter.com/pJaazijvPJ
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 6, 2026The fact that Kantserov scored shouldn’t get lost as easily as it likely will after another one-sided loss. He now has eight goals in 17 games; those eight goals lead all NHL rookies entering Friday. He’s riding a seven-game point streak during which he has scored five times with two assists. Kantserov also leads all rookie forwards in average ice time, skating 18:33 per night. The only other rookie forward skating at least 17 minutes per night is… Anton Frondell (exactly 17:00 average). Ivar Stenberg is third, averaging 16:06 per game.
What makes those numbers more impressive is (I know, I know… we keep saying it) the Blackhawks’ opponents have been some of the best in the league over Kantserov’s first 17 games in the NHL. During his current point streak, Kantserov has scored goals against Florida (twice — once in each game), Colorado and Tampa (beating Andrei Vasilevskiy) and picked up an assist against Boston.
In the history of the Blackhawks, only two rookies have scored at least 40 goals (Steve Larmer and Darryl Sutter), and both of those seasons came over 40 years ago. Could Kantserov push to join them?
Breaking news: Arvid Söderblom isn’t good. If you’ve been here for a while you will know that I have, at times, defended Söderblom because of lackluster efforts from the skaters in front of him — something that has seemed to happen too frequently when he’s been in net over the last couple seasons. But last night, the Blackhawks played well enough to at least have that game be interesting late. The skaters needed a few saves from Söderblom that, frankly, an NHL goaltender has to make. He did not make them. And when the Blackhawks did score late in the third period, they were chasing four goals — three of which were soft. Drew Commesso, your table is ready..At least two Lightning goals, if not three, should've been saved by Arvid Soderblom tonight. He's now winless with an .846 save % in four starts. It's probably time for the Blackhawks to try a new look at the backup goalie position.Postgame story: t.co/iaJp1j1Qen
— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) November 6, 2026 Söderblom shouldn’t be viewed as a scapegoat or the only change that needs to be made to this roster/NHL group. But you can’t stick in the NHL when your save percentage is barely good enough to pass a drivers test. Last year, when Frank Nazar and Connor Bedard were both playing at a high level to start the season, the Hawks were hanging around the wild card conversation. Then they both got hurt at pretty much the same time. Nazar has the skillset to be an impact forward for the Blackhawks every night. Wednesday night, he finally got a couple shots to find the back of the net after having so many not go in this season. Him getting rolling could be huge for the Blackhawks. He’s also shown a lot of self-awareness and accountability in his game. Nazar spoke with Kalen Lumpkins of the Chicago Tribune and owned the fact that he needs to personally elevate his game for the Blackhawks to be better.“Honestly, starts with myself,” Nazar said. “I’ve got to be better away from the puck, and you can’t get outscored by other lines every game, (so) just got to be better.”

— Sportsnet (@Sportsnet) November 5, 2026 According to NHL EDGE, Wyatt Kaiser hit his highest speed burst of the season against the Panthers (21.84 mph) and had three of his eight fastest burst to date in that game. The Blackhawks have been out-scored 14-6 in the first three games of the road trip. And they visit the defending Stanley Cup champions on Saturday night. Yippee hooray! I thought this was out there already, but I got a few texts last night so apparently it wasn’t/isn’t common knowledge. The Blackhawks will wear five different jerseys this year, including their Centennial jerseys coming back for one night when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 17 — the 100th anniversary of the first game in franchise history. Add that to the traditional red and white, the black and the Hometown Remix green and what a lovely collection you could have (for about $1,100). The IceHogs had a late-morning start on Thursday. Gavin Hayes continued his hot streak with a power play goal in the first period. That’s Hayes’ eighth goal of the season already; his professional high is 13 goals, which he scored in 57 games last year. Jiří Felcman picked up his eighth assist of the season the score. Unfortunately the Hogs lost in a shootout.Hayesy continues his goal streak and cuts the deficit ?↕️ pic.twitter.com/JZUkJKe7Nu
— Rockford IceHogs (@goicehogs) November 5, 2026 In college action last night, Providence and UConn played a wacky game. It was 0-0 after one period and 4-4 after two. The Blackhawks’ Friar prospects connected for a go-ahead goal early in the third period as Julius Sumpf assisted on John Mustard‘s third goal of the season. Both Sumpf and Mustard had assists in the eight-goal second period. The Friars lost the game 6-5.Mustard's 3rd of the year gave us our first lead of the night. — PC Men's Hockey (@FriarsHockey) November 6, 2026 Scott Wheeler at The Athletic highlighted ten drafted prospects who are off to noteworthy hot starts outside the NHL. Blackhawks prospect Ryan Roobroeck made the list. Here’s part of what Wheeler had to say about the Hawks’ second pick in the 2026 NHL Draft:Scouts were quite critical of Roobroeck last season, really turning on him for his fitness, lack of physicality for his size, inconsistent play and pace. The Blackhawks took a swing on his shot-skill-size combo early in the second round, counting on some hard conversations and hoping that, with some buy-in playing with the Memorial Cup hosts in Guelph, he could put it all together. I’ve been impressed by how he has looked with his new team. The gaudy goal totals (more than a goal a game to pace the league) are one thing, but he also looks like he had a positive summer; he’s creating more looks than any other player in the league (nearly six shots per game), and he has done a lot of his damage at five-on-five.

— Scott Wheeler (@scottcwheeler) November 4, 2026 Finally, before we get to the Friday night schedule for Blackhawks prospects in college and the OHL, Steven Ellis at Daily Faceoff projected the USA roster for the upcoming World Junior Championship. There was really one Hawks prospect in the mix here, and Ellis has Mason West making the squad as an extra forward. It’s worth noting his head coach at Michigan State, Adam Nightingale, is running this team as well.2027 World Junior Championship: Projecting USA’s roster t.co/oddNmdL28k
