Day 51 of the Chicago Bears offseason. I’ve reached the point of the offseason where every ding that comes with a new notification on my phone threatens to send me into a tizzy.
No one does drama like the NFL. In case you missed it, the Maxx Crosby trade is OFF. And instead of landing the plane with a deal that brings the five-time Pro Bowl pass rusher to Baltimore, the Ravens have pivoted to sign free-agent Trey Hendrickson to a big deal. In other words, Baltimore still gets a pass-rusher coming off an injury-shortened 2025 campaign — but it doesn’t have to cough up a pair of first-round picks to do so. I don’t love the optics here. It looks shady that the Ravens cut a deal, only to back out of it on the eve of making it officially official and sign a player (who has their own injury concerns) after their market seemingly collapsed. There is something that isn’t lining up here, and I hope the league and its reporters get down to it. How are we, as fans, supposed to trust that everything is on the up-and-up with the NFL when its own front office execs seem to be doing shady stuff? How are Ravens GM Eric DeCosta’s peers supposed to feel about working with him in the future? How are players and their agents supposed to feel when negotiating deals with him? This is messy! The 2026 NFL league year opens its doors at 3 p.m. CT. That is when signings and trades can become officially official. In case you missed it, the Bears have been busy on the transactions wire. And while there are some interesting new pieces, the Larry Ogunjobi situation reminds us that nothing is official until it is officially official. See you guys and gals at 3 p.m. for our NFL New Year Party. Who’s bringing snacks?REPORTED BEARS ADDITIONS: Bush | Bryant | Gallimore | Raymond | Lewis | Bradbury
One of the Bears’ biggest feel-good stories of the 2025 season said goodbye to Chicago and hello to New York on Tuesday:

— Nahshon Wright (@nahwrig) March 10, 2026 That Chicago’s front office wasn’t willing to match the type of deal Wright reportedly received feels telling. The Bears publicly said all the right things about Nahshon Wright. And Wright was clear about wanting to return. But perhaps this team wanted to spend $5 million elsewhere. Maybe there is a belief that the scouts and talent evaluators at Halas Hall believe they can find a quality cornerback in the draft. Heck, they signed Wright in the spring. Wright was seemingly an afterthought until he started showing out at training camp. With that in mind, I’m down to see this front office try to catch lightning in a bottle again.THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
The NFL is reportedly exploring the idea of adding a Thanksgiving Eve game to the schedule. If it is able to successfully do so this year, the game will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 25. On the one hand, I like the idea of Thanksgiving Eve football. It could give us a six-day feast of hot pigskin action with some tremendous meals sprinkled in along the way. But on the other hand, I fear that adding a Thanksgiving Eve game has the potential to be the football equivalent of a guest bringing potato salad with raisins in it to the function. All that to say this: I’d be down to watch a Bears Thanksgiving Eve game, especially if it was against an arch-rival like the Packers. Bonus points if the game is hosted at Soldier Field. When was the last time this city was allowed to host a showcase game? But with that being said, I’m not going to be down to watch some random game with two teams I wouldn’t otherwise care about. If the NFL makes a Thanksgiving Eve game happen, it needs to choose the matchup carefully and hope for the best on the injury front. Mandatory Credit: Kimberly P. Mitchell / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images For the sake of a storyline, I love that the Jets are getting quarterback Geno Smith back in the fold. Smith is among the many quarterbacks who were failed by Jets coaches and management as a young player coming into the league. But now that Geno has been around the block and seen some things, he returns to New York, where he figures to be a bridge quarterback to the franchise’s next project. With the Jets on Chicago’s schedule in 2026, there is a real chance we see Geno (and not Justin Fields) quarterbacking that game.BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky
All that spending the Raiders have done has led to Pro Football Focus proclaiming that Las Vegas’ linebackers are among the most-improved position groups thanks to free agency. The Raiders’ spending might have raised some eyebrows. But if these noves hit, they could help that franchise claw its way back to respectability. Free agent signigns can be floor raisers. But if Vegas wants to hit a new ceiling, it will need to hit on its draft picks. The Bears blueprint from 2025 is one to follow here.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
