September 20th – September 25th (pool swimming) Prelims at 10am local (9pm previous night ET)/Finals at 5pm local (4am ET) Tokyo Aquatics Centre LCM (50m) Meet Central Entries Live Results Recaps Prelims: Day 1 Finals: Day 1It’s the 2nd day of the Asian Games in Tokyo, and we have a stacked prelims lineup for you this evening (or morning for many international readers).
Tonight’s lineup will feature prelims for the men’s and women’s 50 backstroke, men’s 50 freestyle, women’s 200 freestyle, men’s 100 breaststroke, women’s 200 IM, and the men’s 4×200 freestyle relay.
Xu Jiayu of China, who holds the Asian Record in the 50 back and is tied for the fastest-ever Asian Games performance in this event at 24.38, is the defending champion and will be racing in the 3rd and final heat of the event’s prelims. On the women’s side, Wan Letian will look to earn her place in the finals as the top seed in the 50 back in 27.42.
Ian Yentou Ho enters the men’s 50 free as the top seed in 21.71, though he will face heavy pressure from multiple sub-22 entrants. The women’s 200 free will feature Siobhan Haughey, aiming to defend her 2023 Asian Games title and potentially lower both her Asian and Games records.
Dong Zhihao comes in as the top seed in the men’s 100 breast in 58.57, though he will face stiff challengers in Qin Haiyang and Shin Ohashi in one of the meet’s most anticipated showdowns. Asian Record holder Yu Yiting, one of the biggest stars of this meet, comes in as the top seed in the women’s 200 IM; she will race in the 3rd and final heat of the prelims, right next to 13-year-old sensation Yu Zidi.
