A lot has changed since the last time I wrote one of these. The Chicago Bulls haven’t lost a game, and they suddenly look like a team climbing instead of sliding backward. Meanwhile, the NBA is floating ideas to discourage tanking, which only gives the Bulls more reason to keep pushing for wins. For us, that means we need to rethink our trade targets, not just guys projected late in the lottery, but maybe players outside of it altogether.
On the Bull’s Eye: College Hoops the Chicago Bulls (and Fans) Should Watch This WeekWhat hasn’t changed from last week to this week is what the Bulls should be hunting for in the draft: a versatile big and a guard who can score at all three levels. With that in mind, here are three scenarios, and the players to watch, heading into this week.
The Chicago Bulls Draft Board
Best Case Scenario: Labaron Philon — Alabama Crimson Tide
© David Leong-Imagn ImagesLast week, Philon was our worst-case scenario. But since then, with the Bulls rising (and their lottery odds falling) while Labaron keeps shining, the tables have flipped. In his last game against Kennesaw State, Philon posted 17 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals. That could almost be considered one of his worse outings, especially after dropping 29 and 7 the game before. Yet those 4 steals keep reinforcing the idea that he can impact the game in more ways than just scoring.
In Chicago’s latest win over the Hawks, Coby White showed exactly how valuable late-game scoring is. If he leaves this season or in the offseason, the Bulls will have a major hole to fill, one Philon might realistically grow into.

Worst Case Scenario: Cameron Carr — Baylor Bears
© Chris Jones-Imagn ImagesThe case of Cameron Carr is genuinely intriguing. On paper, his numbers scream top-10 pick, but his age might push him into the 15–20 range in most mocks. The Baylor Bear is in the middle of a breakout year. After a limited role at Tennessee, Carr finally found a real opportunity, and he’s made the most of it. Averaging 22 points and 6 rebounds on terrific shooting splits, he’s earned every bit of his 30 minutes per game.
He’s not much of a passer, but he’s a surprisingly good shot blocker for his size and role. In a lineup built around Josh Giddey, who covers much of what Carr doesn’t, this could be the perfect late-lottery pick for the Bulls. At 21 and a half, he may slip a bit because of his age, but nothing about his game suggests he’ll flop.

Most Realistic: Hannes Steinbach — Washington Huskies
© Chris Jones-Imagn ImagesHere’s another new name on our list of targets: Hannes Steinbach. He’s a 20-year-old, 6’11” freshman playing in the Big Ten for Washington. Through nine games, he’s averaging 18 points and 12 rebounds per night — with five of those boards coming on the offensive end. His defense still leaves a little to be desired, putting up just two “stocks” per game, but his offense really is his best defense. He can space the floor, draw fouls, and control the paint with a real presence.
In Chicago’s 152-point outburst, I noticed something: the Bulls have started leaning into an identity built around threes and paint scoring, with almost no love for the mid-range. If that philosophy sticks, then a big who can finish inside and create second-chance opportunities should absolutely be on the draft radar, even if the defense isn’t fully there yet. And in a league where double-big lineups are trending upward, Chicago could always surround Hannes with defensive help in free agency to get the most out of him.
