Three days after sending Noa Essengue to the G League, the Chicago Bulls recalled the rookie.
The announcement comes following the team’s stunning 24-point comeback victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. Essengue has yet to appear in an NBA game this season, and a spot in the rotation has been hard to come by with the team on a red-hot 7-1 start. The rookie also does not turn 19 years old until December, meaning time with the Windy City Bulls always felt as if it would be part of his developmental story.

While Noa Essengue will return to the Advocate Center on Wednesday, it sure feels more than likely that another trip to Hoffman Estates will be in the cards soon. The Bulls will have a nice two-day break before their incredibly tough stretch continues with back-to-back road games against Central Division foes. They will start things off on Friday night with a matchup against MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo. Then, they will fly to Cleveland to battle a Cavaliers team that recently welcomed back their All-Star point guard.
Will Essengue join them on this brief road trip, or will the Bulls simply re-assign him following a couple of days of practice with the big league squad? For what it’s worth, the Windy City Bulls do open their season on Saturday night at NOW Arena against the Wisconsin Herd. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Essengue stick around town and suit up for that season opener. After all, in-game reps sure feel like the most important thing for the rookie early on in his career.
Anyway, we will keep an eye on how the Chicago Bulls choose to handle things. It’s not often that a rookie lottery pick will travel fully with the G League team, and Windy City only has two home games between Saturday and November 26. With that being the case, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Essengue assigned and recalled plenty over the next couple of weeks as the Bulls look to balance big league practice time with on-court minutes.
