Eliza Tan from Adelaide, South Australia, has committed to swim and study at The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the class of 2029.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Virginia Tech for 2025. A huge thank you to the Virginia Tech coaching staff for giving me this opportunity. As well as thank you to my friends family and coaches for helping me reach this goal. GO HOKIES!!!”
Tan graduated from Immanuel College in South Australia. She swims year-round with Immanuel Piranhas Swim Club and specializes in the shorter end of the freestyle range. At the 2024 South Australia SCM Swimming Championships, she was runner-up in the 50 free (25.92), 100 free (56.73), and 200 free (2:05.51), all lifetime bests at the time. In the same year, she competed at Australian Age Championships and made the ‘B’ finals in the 50 free and 100 free, clocking a PB of 58.35 in the latter.
This spring she earned new PBs in the 100 free (57.87), 200 free (2:06.64), 100 back (1:10.31), and 50 fly (29.81) at the South Australian Long Course State Age Championships. A month later, she lowered her lifetime best in the 50 free (26.77) at the Australian Open Championships.

50 free – 26.77 (23.39) 100 free – 57.87 (50.69) 200 free – 2:06.64 (1:51.20)Tan will join the Hokies with transfers Bengisu Caymaz and Bianca Costea and incoming freshman Isabella Budnik. It took 22.41/ 48.72/ 1:46.56 to score in the sprint free events at 2025 ACC Championships.
