Inspired by Adam Nevill's novel Last Days, Ascension is a psychological horror thriller following Rose (played by Outlander's Caitríona Balfe), a documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother, who is brilliant at uncovering others' truths – but struggling to resolve her own.
According to Deadline, the project has now enlisted the acting talent of Christopher Chung (Roddy Ho in Slow Horses), T'Nia Miller (Jocasta in VisionQuest) and Amanda Plummer (Wiress in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire).
His career spans the likes of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men, Gravity and Netflix's Roma, making him one of the most respected creatives in Hollywood today.
Most recently, Cuarón produced Cate Blanchett-led miniseries Disclaimer, also for Apple TV, which was another book adaptation about a documentarian on the cusp of a very personal crisis.
