Justin Timberlake paid $8.3 million for a Los Angeles estate once owned by actress Helen Hunt in 2002.

Nearly two decades later, the pop star and his wife, actress Jessica Biel, put the property on the market for $35 million in October 2021.

The gated estate sits on about 10 acres in the Hollywood Hills. According to The Real Deal, it features a Spanish Villa-style mansion with seven bedrooms, a private guesthouse, a tennis court, a gym and an 85-foot infinity pool.

The property also has a link to early Hollywood. Before Hunt built a home on part of the land, the area was once part of a larger estate owned by actor Errol Flynn, per Wall Street Journal.

Timberlake bought the main property before his marriage to Biel and later added more land to make the compound larger and more private. The couple also made changes to the house, including adding the swimming pool.

The main house was built in 2000 and covers about 13,000 square feet. Its Spanish Villa design gives the home a distinct look, while its large grounds offer more space than many properties in the Hollywood Hills.

Timberlake reportedly paid $8.3 million for the property in 2002, as he began building his solo career after his time with the pop group NSYNC.

The estate originally stood on a smaller piece of land. Hunt, known for her work in film and television, had built a house on a parcel of about three acres. Timberlake later bought that property from her.

He also acquired a nearby vacant lot of roughly seven acres. The additional land expanded the grounds to about 10 acres and gave the couple more privacy.

The property was listed for $35 million in 2021. That asking price was $26.7 million higher than the reported amount Timberlake paid in 2002. However, the difference between the purchase price and asking price does not represent a confirmed profit, since it does not account for renovations, maintenance, taxes or other costs.

The estate’s size was one of its main selling points. Listing agent Justin Paul Huchel of Hilton & Hyland said large areas of open grass were difficult to find in the Hollywood Hills.

“Just a sliver of grass in the [Hollywood] Hills is hard to find,” he said, per WSJ.

The grounds include a large lawn, a vegetable garden, and outdoor spaces for relaxing or hosting guests. A covered patio with a wooden ceiling connects the home’s indoor and outdoor living areas.

The property also features a swimming pool that runs along the length of the house. The pool leads to a separate plunge pool, while a hot tub offers views of the San Fernando Valley.

The seven-bedroom mansion has several features designed for comfort and entertainment.

Inside, the home includes a gourmet chef’s kitchen, a gym and a private screening room. The outdoor area has an 85-foot infinity pool, a separate plunge pool and a regulation-size tennis court.

A two-bedroom guesthouse provides additional space for visitors. The estate’s wide grounds and gated entrance also help separate the home from nearby properties.

Timberlake and Biel also owned real estate in New York City, Montana, and Tennessee. Their properties included a Manhattan penthouse, which they sold in 2018, and a home in Montana’s Yellowstone Club.

Timberlake, a Grammy Award-winning singer and actor, became famous as a member of *NSYNC before launching his solo career. His 2002 debut solo album, Justified, included songs that helped establish him as a major pop star.

Biel has built her own career in film and television. She starred in the television series The Sinner and also served as an executive producer on the show.

The couple married in 2012 and have two children together.
