A major crash snarled traffic on the inbound Kennedy Expressway Wednesday afternoon, with a metal beam reportedly hanging above lanes from an overpass.
Around 3:30 p.m., crash involving a semi-truck and two passenger vehicles occurred near West Grand Avenue, Illinois State Police said. Two people were transported to a local hospital with injuries from the scene.
The City of Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management & Communications said in a post on social media around 4:30 p.m. that a cleanup the crash was impacting multiple lanes.
Three inbound lanes on the Kennedy were blocked as of 3:40 p.m., according to Total Traffic. The blocked lanes were causing delays of up to two hours.
Video posted to social media showed a fire truck, several police and fire department vehicles and a tow truck at the scene. What appeared to be a beam could be seen hanging from a bridge over the Kennedy in one of the videos.
“Seek alternative route,” OEMC said in the post.
