Sylvester Stallone may be recognized for his dangerous action stunts throughout his career, but the actor is now paying the price and warning others.

The actor’s first leading role in the action genre was in none other than his 1982 cult classic, First Blood. Stallone has kept fans on their toes with franchise installments, including Rambo, The Expendables, Escape Plan, and many more ever since. While his breakthrough role in Rocky is a sports drama, the actor became notorious for taking on the real-life role of a boxer.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Stallone admits that he has “millions of regrets” after decades of being an action star. Not only from the physicality of playing his roles, but the stunts he performed that have led to more than a few surgeries.

“Millions, millions of regrets. I could literally spend a half hour talking about injuries, the amount, not even like one, I’m talking about 30 hours, 30 minutes of just individual ones, because it becomes compounded,” explained the actor.

“I have been injured many, many times, but after ‘Expendables,’ I ended up with nine back operations, three neck fusions. Both shoulders ripped out, eye, you know, all kinds of lens put … it’s been brutal.”

The actor adds that he’s never been quite the same since getting multiple surgeries to fix on-set injuries. At 80 years old, Stallone admits that he has “to make peace with the pain as much as you can.”

Despite countless accolades and recognition in Hollywood as one of the best action stars of all time, Stallone isn’t shy to admit that his injuries aren’t something to be proud of.

“I mean, just ask every football player in the world. So yeah, that and people go, ‘Aren’t you proud of them?’ No. I think I’m an idiot for doing that. I’m proud that I broke myself in pieces. Like, duh, no,” he explained.

There’s no denying that up-and-coming actors have looked up to Stallone’s generation of blockbuster stars. After years of injuries, Stallone advises young actors that its best to leave stuntwork to the professionals.

“Don’t be a stage hawk, or whatever you call it, a showboat. I know a lot of people are thinking about doing stunts … don’t. Don’t. Let the pro do it,” Stallone said. “Let me explain something, you cannot beat gravity, when you hit the ground, you lose, and it’s going to come back.”

Stallone isn’t the only one whose mended after on-set injuries, with Arnold Schwartznegger having been injured on the set of every single action movie he has ever starred in. Jackie Chan has famously been the most injured actor in cinema, with a reported over 200 distinct injuries and a Guinness World Record for the most performed stunts.
