Michael Callahan has resigned as football coach at Aliso Niguel.

Callahan announced his decision to Aliso Niguel players today.

He coached the Wolverines for six seasons. He graduated from Aliso Niguel in 2005 and played football there.

Callahan said in a statement that he is resigning so that he can commit more time to his family that includes two children.

Aliso Niguel this season finished 8-4 overall and was third in the Foxtrot League with a 3-2 league record. The Wolverines beat Millikan 7-6 in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs before 10-7 loss to La Serna in the quarterfinals.

“Winning games was never the sole focus. I never believed in winning on the field but losing in the community. What mattered most to me was helping you become good students, future employees, future husbands, and one day, great fathers. I’m proud of what we’ve built together. We aren’t just a competitive football team—we are better people because of the work we’ve put in.”
