The New York Jets fire sale continues! This time, it’s the Dallas Cowboys jumping in and making a deal.
According to Ian Rapoport, Jerry Jones has traded a 2027 1st Round pick and a 2026 2nd Round pick in exchange for 27-year-old defensive tackle Quinnen Williams from the Jets. Williams has 17 tackles, 7 TFLs, 3 forced fumbles, a sack, and 3 QB hits in eight games this season.

It’s not terribly surprising that Jerry Jones got aggressive at this year’s trade deadline to try to improve his team. Dallas’ defense is one of the worst in the NFL, and prior to the season, they shipped off their best player on that side of the ball in Micah Parsons when the two sides couldn’t agree on a contract extension.
Quinnen Williams is a very good player and a fit for Matt Eberflus’ defense, which requires a very strong interior defensive line, but Dallas is more than just one really good defensive lineman away from being a Super Bowl contender. As of now, they’re 3-5-1, having lost two in a row, and they’re looking up at a 6-2 Eagles team that has already beaten them once this season.
Having said that, Quinnen Williams is the type of player you’d hope to get when drafting near the top ten in the 1st Round. Essentially, Jerry Jones turned Micah Parsons into Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, and a mid-to-late 1st Round pick. All things considered, that’s not awful considering it appeared the bridge to bring Parsons back had been totally burned. I think Jerry Jones probably should have just kept the draft pick, but trading it for a sure thing (though it only complicates the Cowboys’ cap situation) isn’t the worst idea. It’s just quite the gamble that Dallas will be in the running in the NFC next season.
As for the Jets, they add their third 1st Round pick today following their trade of Sauce Gardner to the Colts. It’s not a bad haul for a team that looks destined for yet another full-on rebuild upcoming this offseason.
