Based on performances at the 2026 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup, as well as last month’s Dutch Qualifiers meet, the Netherlands has revealed its 15-strong roster set to represent the nation at next month’s Short Course World Championships.
A total of 10 women and 5 men will carry the orange flag into Beijing, with the Netherlands hoping to improve upon its 18th-place finish at the 2024 edition of the championships in Melbourne.
On-fire Marrit Steenbergen headlines the women’s side of the roster, with Maaike de Waard, Milou van Wijk and Tessa Giele also in the lineup.
26-year-old World Record holder Steenbergen represents a threat on multiple levels, ranking 4th in the world in the 200m IM, 1st in the 100m IM, 3rd in the 200m free, 1st in the 200m free, 4th in the 100m back and 3rd in the 50m back. We’ll have to wait until the SC Worlds entry lists are published to discover what Steenbergen’s schedule may look like.
The Dutch men’s roster portion is highlighted by Olympic medalist Caspar Corbeau, newly minted national record holder Sean Niewold and IM ace Thomas Jensen.
At the moment, Corbeau is the only Dutchman ranked among the top 5 performers in any SCM event, owning the 4th position in the 200m breaststroke.
Two years ago in Budapest, Hungary, Dutch swimmers collected just two pieces of hardware. Nyls Korstanje earned bronze in the men’s 50m fly, as Giele snagged silver in the women’s 100m fly.
We’ve reported how Korstanje, formerly of NC State, has suffered a setback in his post-injury comeback, leaving him out of the Dutch Qualifiers and, therefore, off the roster for Beijing.
