Some Folks Never Learn, Bucky Irving Homecoming, and Other Bears Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Good morning, and Happy Friday! We’re just over 48 hours away from the Bears Week 9 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and today we’re reminded that some folks in the media just can’t help themselves.

Take this clip from today’s episode of Get Up, where Dan Orlovsky lauded Todd Bowles’ defense and the challenge it presents, and then his co-host predicted that Bowles and Tampa’s defense will “serve Caleb Williams and the Bears offense a slice of humble pie.”

— Clay Harbor (@clayharbs82) November 6, 2026 Look, I’m not saying it can’t happen. And Todd Bowles is indeed a very good defensive designer and play caller. His defense blanked Atlanta last week and intercepted Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. four times. But Penix isn’t Caleb Williams, and for all the playmakers Atlanta has on offense, they’re not the Bears. I guess the chuckle that I got out of that clip doesn’t even stem from the actual matchup on paper, and the viability of success one way or another, but more so, that there’s always someone on these panel forum shows zigging when everyone else is zagging, just for the sake of it. The Bears offense has been playing as well as any offense in football this season, and Williams has looked like the best quarterback in football for most of the last month since returning from the hamstring injury. Again, anything can happen in the NFL, and I respect Bowles defense, but I laughed at the take. Today’s entry came via Ian Rapoport, who said Illinois lawmakers recently met with George McCaskey, Kevin Warren, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. According to a statement from the team, via Rapoport, the Bears are still doing their due diligence on the proposed Indiana sites, while also working with the state of Illinois on potentially shifting back to the Arlington Heights location. — Bleacher Nation Bears (@BN_Bears) November 6, 2026 Alright, back to football. In stadiums that actually exist. I’m not sure how many know this, but Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving is from the Chicagoland area. He attended Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills before heading to Minnesota, then Oregon. During his senior season, he was named the South Suburban Conference Player of the Year and earned All-State honors, finishing his high school career with 3,264 yards. On Sunday, Irving will play at Soldier Field for the first time in his NFL career, and he discussed that with reporters in Tampa this week:

— Sunday Night Football on NBC (@SNFonNBC) November 5, 2026 The Buccaneers enter Week 9 as the league’s top rushing offense, and much of that is thanks to Irving’s work this season. Irving has rushed for 728 yards (fourth in the NFL) and five touchdowns on 147 carries, averaging 5.0 yards per carry (ninth-best) this year. In Tampa’s victory over the Falcons last week, he rushed for 170 yards and a touchdown on 27 attempts. He’s rushed for 100 yards or more three times this season, and twice crossed the 150-yard threshold. As I wrote in this week’s Three Bears, Jeffery Simmons setting the tone in the middle of the Bears’ defensive line will go a long way in slowing down the Bucs’ rushing attack. If Dennis Allen’s defense can limit the Bucs’ rushers on the ground, Tampa will be forced to lean on Baker Mayfield, who’s attempted 14 passes in two games since returning from a multi-week absence due to a dislocated throwing thumb.
