Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jack Murphy, a Class of 2027 senior out of River Forest, Illinois, has announced his commitment to swim at the University of Louisville.

Murphy is a student at Oak Park an River Forest High School in the suburbs of Chicago. He competes at the club level with the Academy Bullets, a USA Swimming Gold Medal Club.

The distance freestyle specialist said this about his commitment:

“I’m beyond proud to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Louisville! This sport has shaped me in more ways than I can count, and I wouldn’t be here without the people who have pushed, supported, and believed in me. All thanks to God, my family, friends, and teammates for keeping me grounded, and a special thanks to Coach Todd, the rest of my coaches, and the entire Academy Bullets Swim Club for guiding me through this journey. I’m also extremely thankful to Coach Arthur Albiero, Coach Reed Fujan, Coach Kevin, and the Louisville staff for giving me this opportunity. Excited for what’s ahead—Go Cards! ️”

In Murphy, head Cardinal coach Arthur Albiero gets one of Illinois’ top juniors. He should come in with a wave of momentum if his next seasons look anything like his most recent summer. At the 2025 NCSA Summer Championships, Murphy appeared in three A-finals: the 200 free (5th, 1:54.32), 400 free (7th, 4:02.36), and 200 back (7th, 2:05.08). The 400 free represented a remarkable 11-second drop from 2024, while both 200s marked a three-second shave over the season.

This winter and spring, he’ll have the opportunity to match his lights out summer season in the bathtub. At the Short Course NCSA Championships last March, Murphy posted lifetime bests of 4:31.17 in the 500 free, 1:40.43 in the 200 free, 1:48.16 in the 200 back, and 3:57.01 in the 400 IM.

Murphy’s Best Times (SCY)

500 free: 4:31.17 1000 free: 9:38.50 1650 free: 16:09.71 200 free: 1:40.43 200 back: 1:48.16

On the conference level, Murphy will have to shave some time in his best events to make the scoring squad for the increasingly-competitive ACCs. For example, a 4:20 was needed to earn top 24 in the 500 freestyle, while a 1:34 mid guaranteed a second swim in the 200 free. Murphy has two-and-a-half years until 2028 ACCs to attain these times. The Lousiville men placed 5th at the most recent iteration of the championships.

Though he’s distanced himself from the event recently, Murphy could enter the ranks of what is now a very small mile group in Kentucky. The 2024-2025 season saw two Cardinals swim the event: Eli Shoyat (14:50.05) and Kayden Lancaster (15:18.27). Both will no longer be on deck by the time Murphy arrives, but he’ll perhaps find a training partner to work up to in current freshman Max Hatcher. Hatcher put up a 4:36.11/9:18.45 in his debut dual meet as a Cardinal.

Murphy becomes one of three 2027 Louisville commits thus far. He joins midwestern sprint specialists Ty Thomas and Cale TeBeest.
