My favorite part about the bye week is that I don’t have to submit Chicago Bears injury report posts.
But if we were to do one this week, it sounds like the news would be better than we might otherwise expect for this time of year.
Chicago Bears Injury Report — Bye Week Edition
When the Chicago Bears kicked off their Week 4 win against the Las Vegas Raiders, the team’s list of game-day inactives included four starters and a rookie first-round pick. And while the team still has 11 days until it has to cook up another list of inactive players before its next game, I am starting to believe better days are ahead for the Bears injury report.
CHGO’s Adam Hoge reports (via Twitter/X) that cornerback Kyler Gordon and linebacker T.J. Edwards participated in Tuesday’s practice as the team had one more session before heading into the bye. Hoge adds that Gordon said he would be playing this week if the team were not on the bye. He also shares a quote from Edwards, which hints as his return.
“It felt good moving around and being back out there,” Edwards said. “When you’re out for a little bit and hurting, you miss it, man.”

Edwards has played a grand total of 30 snaps this season, and they all came in the team’s Week 2 loss against the Detroit Lions. The starting weakside linebacker in Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen’s defense opened the year on the Bears injury report with a hamstring injury after missing time during training camp and the preseason. Edwards missed Week 1 with the injury, but returned for game No. 2 … only to suffer another injury.
Two years ago, Edwards was the team’s leading tackler. Last year, he set a career-high in sacks (4) and tackles-for-loss (12) while piling up 129 tackles. A healthy Edwards could help Chicago’s front four stop the run and pressure the quarterback at a higher rate.
Kyler Gordon’s next snap will be his first of the 2025 NFL season. The cornerback was a late add to the Bears injury report in Week 1, landing on it on the Sunday before the team’s Week 1 opener against the Minnesota Vikings because of a hamstring injury. It looked like Gordon was making progress late last week, but it wasn’t enough progress to receive medical clearance to suit up for Week 4. Nick McCloud has been doing a bulk of the work operating as the team’s nickel cornerback spot, but getting Gordon back would be a welcome boost to that position.
© Daniel Bartel-Imagn ImagesESPN’s Courtney Cronin shares (via Twitter/X) that rookie tight end Colston Loveland was also practicing. Even when he was healthy, Loveland has been limited in the early going. That he missed Week 4’s game with a hip injury only added to the frustration of Bears fans, who have been looking forward to the University of Michigan product living up to being a top-10 pick. It stings a little more seeing fellow first-round tight end, Tyler Warren, get off to a solid start with the Indianapolis Colts. I’m less concerned about keeping up with the Joneses and more concerned with getting Loveland off the Bears injury report and back to full strength and helping this team.
The news wasn’t all good on the injury front, as Cronin also pointed out that defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, right tackle Darnell Wright, and right guard Jonah Jackson did not practice on Tuesday. Jarrett has been a staple on the Bears injury report because of a knee injury that has limited him in practice. Wright’s elbow injury (which caused him to miss some snaps in Week 3) kept him off the field in Week 4.
As for Jackson, there was no injury designation next to his name. Jackson played on all 68 of the team’s offensive snaps in Week 3, so I’ll be watching the Bears injury report in Week 6 to see if something is brewing on that front.
