During a stop in San Diego Thursday, the crew of a U.S. Coast Guard cutter offloaded more than 18 tons of cocaine.

Personnel aboard the USCG’s Waesche confiscated the contraband during 11 seizures from vessels off the coasts of Mexico and Central and South America from December through early February, according to the military branch.

The 37,256 pounds of cocaine the crews took out of circulation would have had a street value of roughly $275 million, officials said during an afternoon briefing at Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal.

The Waesche is one of four legend-class national security cutters homeported in Alameda.
