But as this latest impression makes the rounds, an old clip of Musk is also resurfacing, with his words from two years ago taking on renewed, eyebrow-raising interest.
During an October 2024 interview with Tucker Carlson, Musk made a blunt remark about what could happen to him if Donald Trump lost that year’s presidential election.
“I’m f—ed. If he loses, I’m f—ed,” Musk said, laughing.
Elon Musk Joked About a Possible Prison Sentence in 2024
The exchange came as Musk discussed his support for Trump’s presidential campaign. Carlson suggested that Musk would be in trouble if Trump lost, prompting the billionaire to imagine what might happen next.
“How long do you think my prison sentence is going to be? Will I see my children?” Musk asked.

He also acknowledged that he had little room to distance himself from the campaign, saying, “I have no plausible deniability. No, no. And I’ve been trashing Kamala nonstop.”
The interview was published in October 2024, just weeks before President Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential election. Musk had become one of Trump’s most prominent supporters, backing the campaign financially and publicly.
The Old Clip Is Circulating Again After the Midterms
The resurfaced remarks are drawing attention in the wake of the Nov. 3 midterm elections, when Democrats made sweeping gains and won control of both the House and Senate. The results also formed the backdrop for SNL’s latest Musk impression.

In the sketch, Culhane’s version of Musk appeared on “Weekend Update” to address the election setbacks and the money the real-life billionaire spent backing Republican candidates. Musk’s political spending and the losses became a central target of the jokes.
The 2024 interview clip offers a different reminder of how personally Musk once framed the stakes of a Trump election loss. His comments were made jokingly, and they, of course, do not establish that he faces a prison sentence or any specific legal consequences now. But with the political landscape shifting again, the blunt exchange has found a new audience.
