The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has assured enhanced security for the proposed India vs Bangladesh white-ball series in September, provided the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agrees to send their team over.
The two nations have been at odds after Bangladesh officials made some comments regarding annexing part of India last year. The relationship between the two countries worsened. Post that, India postponed the tour of Bangladesh originally slated in August 2025.
BCB ready for India vs Bangladesh series
In March, reports emerged that the 6-match series might happen, and a tentative schedule was revealed. Last week, the BCB invited bids for the media rights of the series. Another positive step. However, the BCCI hasn’t confirmed anything. Amid all of this, BCB security committee chairman Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed has assured that the maximum security possible will be granted to the Indian team.
“Security is always a concern for every touring side, especially for the major cricketing nations. We have not yet formally started communication with them (BCCI). We are hopeful there will be no complaints if the tour takes place as planned,” Sayeed told reporters in Dhaka on July 7.
For the uninformed, Sayeed is the son of Bangladesh’s current Minister of Home Affairs Salahuddin Ahmed. Therefore, he won’t have much issue in assuring to BCCI that their players will be safe.
“We always try to organise our events in a controlled environment and ensure the highest standards of security. We will continue to do that. It (security measures) will depend on the situation (during the India series), and if required, we will enhance the security. There has been no such positive message yet (with the BCCI), and we are still working out the details of the tour. We are trying to establish communication through our formal channels because the tour is coming up very soon,” he added.
BCCI faces logistical challenges
The relationship between India and Bangladesh has improved since the BCCI forced Mustafizur Rahman to withdraw from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season and the BCB pulled out of the T20 World Cup 2026. But the India vs Bangladesh series ahead as planned might be logistically challenging.
India is slated to play 3 T20I matches against Afghanistan from September 13 to 19. Before that, in August, India will be in Sri Lanka for a 2-match Test series. The only window is early September, and that doesn’t seem feasible right now unless India pulls out players from either the Afghanistan or Bangladesh series.
