The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Qualifier 2 match was between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. It was a Shubman Gill show in Qualifier 2 as GT overpowered the Royals, winning the game by 7 wickets and qualifying for the final of IPL 2026.
There was a controversy during the toss as it was done twice, as the first time call from Riyan Parag was not heard by the match official. Later, the RR captain had to call again, and it fell in favour of the Royals, who won the toss and elected to bat first. They played the same team, but GT made one change, bringing in R Sai Kishore.
After opting to bat first, the Royals had the worst possible start, as Yashasvi Jaiswal was out early for one run, and Dhruv Jurel also went back early for 7 runs. With 9/2, the Men in Pink were struggling at one stage, but they recovered well, as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ravindra Jadeja stood up tall.
Vaibhav brought up his fifty in 31 balls, and Jadeja, after playing a knock of 34 runs, went back retired hurt; however, he had to come back after the fall of wickets in quick succession. Then they kept on the run flow, as the former took charge and changed his gear a bit, but was dismissed on the score of 96 runs and missing out on another hundred.
Jaddu and Donovan Ferreira stormed into the final five overs. The latter was the aggressor, scoring 38* off 11 deliveries, and the former was unbeaten on 45 runs as the Royals finished off with the score of 214-6 in their 20 overs.
Shubman Gill scores a brilliant hundred in the run chase
Coming out to chase, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan were off to a breezy start as the two batters scored fifty in four overs. They stitched 69/0 in the power play and looked in fine touch as they brought the 100 partnership as well. As the GT skipper brought his fifty in 30 balls.
Sai Sudharsan once again was unlucky as he was hit-wicket again on the score of 58 runs as the partnership of 167 runs ended. Gill brought his hundred in 47 balls and played a knock of 104 runs as he nearly closed down the match as his team won the game with Rahul Tewatia finishing the game in style and remained unbeaten on 17* runs.
We complement each other well- Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill won the Player of the Match award for his excellent innings and shared his insights after winning the game for his side. He said, "There was some confusion there but happy to get the win. We complement each other well, we understand each other very well and when we communicate we know what bowler to take down."
"I don't think I have seen anything, no one has seen anything like that in two matches in a row. It was all about I was in kind of in a zone, I was looking at the bolwers and see the ball, pick my spots to score the runs."
Shubman Gill concluded, "That's what happens when you are batting well. We got a total, and once we got off to a start, I wanted to finish the game. We are very fortunate to have very good bowlers, Sai Kishore didn't even have a bowl today."
