Variety confirmed on Monday, September 21 that the Devil Wears Prada star will campaign for supporting — despite the fact that she portrayed Penelope, aka lead character Odysseus’ wife in the summer hit.
This is worthy of note for those keeping a close eye on The Odyssey since another scene-stealing supporting turn came from fellow actress Samantha Morton, who brought the villainous Circe to life on-screen. Could they both be Oscar-nominated in the same category come 2027?
As cinephiles well know, Hathaway has already won the supporting actress Oscar before — in 2013 for her performance as Fantine in Les Misérables. She was nominated for the Best Lead Actress Academy Award four years earlier for Rachel Getting Married.
