Greeley’s Rule105 Brewing reopens as potential buyers appear

GREELEY — Rule105 Brewing, which closed its doors Saturday and prepared to liquidate its assets because it failed to find a buyer after more than a year of searching, suddenly has two possible purchasers and is open again.

“We do have one offer not backed up by a bank yet, and another one coming in today,” co-owner Kristie Mosher said Tuesday. “So we decided we might as well reopen while we’re in a holding pattern. Waiting with our doors closed doesn’t make any money, and we want our customers not to find another place they feel cozy at.”

Staying open also made sense for a smooth transition to a new owner, she said.

“We decided, for crying out loud, we might as well be open for business because when somebody takes over we’ll be open and they can be in place smoothly.”

Mike and Kristie Mosher revealed plans to sell the brewery at 4731 W. 10th St. in December 2024, but announced on their Facebook page in late January that the business would close instead.

“Rule105 Brewing has been for sale for over 12 months,” the post stated. “There have been nearly two dozen interested parties, and we felt that several would have been fantastic new owners. Sadly, we have failed to sell the brewery.

“Therefore, we have reached a point where it is in our best interest to cease operation and liquidate our business in order to realize our dreams of retirement and our desire to be full-time grandparents. We have already missed the first 12 years of our grandsons’ lives and don’t want to miss any more.

“This has been an amazing and agonizing choice to make because we are so proud of what we created through Rule105. We have been so blessed over the past 5 years with many new friends and so many great experiences. The memories of this chapter of our lives will forever warm our hearts.”

But Tuesday, a new Facebook post painted a brighter picture.

“Good things come to those who wait,” the Moshers wrote, stating that the brewpub would resume its normal hours. “We are still hoping to make a business sale. We will keep you informed of any progress.”

The Moshers purchased the former Broken Plow Brewery in 2021 and renamed it Rule105, which Kristie Mosher said was a term from the Urban Dictionary meaning “beer is the answer.”

“We have a good promise of a sale but we’re not sold yet,” Kristie Mosher said. “I’ll believe it when I see it. Nothing ever goes as expected. But I do anticipate a sale if an offer goes through that has the backing of a bank. I’m optimistic that a sale will go through in the next week or two, but with a bank it could take longer.

“I’m very hopeful,” she said. “Hopefully we have a great owner stepping in and our customers will keep coming and coming.”
