29-year-old Olympic medalist Zac Incerti has decided to retire from competitive swimming.
The backstroker-turned-freestyle ace took to social media this week to make the announcement, with his Instagram post detailing the following:
“Here we go people it’s that time
Ya boy is calling it to a sport that has given me so much throughout my life, starting at my first nationals at age 18, not really knowing what I started to do full time, it’s been with my own trials and tribulations which has shaped the man I am today and I wouldn’t take back any of it.
I am sitting here very proud of what I was able to achieve and being able to represent the best country in the world is something I will never take for granted or over look
I have so many people to thank and I’ll get around to them individually, but just a massive thank you to @swimmingaustralia @dolphinsaus for letting me travel the world to do what I love

Incerti began his career as a backstroker, earning gold in the 50m and 100m events at the 2016 Oceania Championships and 50m back gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Transitioning to freestyle, Incerti won bronze medals as part of the Australian 800 free relay at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games, and another bronze as part of the Australian 400 free relay in Tokyo. He swam in the finals for both 2020 relays, while in 2024 he raced a prelims leg.
Incerti last raced at the 2025 Australian Swimming Trials, where he posted times of 48.46 in the 100 and 1:45.80 in the 200 free. While he finished 6th in the 100, he scratched out of finals of the 200 after being the fastest swimmer in the morning. His time was 3rd-best overall, though he ultimately wasn’t selected for the World Championship team.
He hasn’t raced since those Trials in June of last year.
Outside the pool, last year Incerti joined the cast of Season 7 of the hit global reality dating television show Love Island Australia. He made it to day three on the series.
