A jury this week found a New York man guilty of murder after prosecutors said he tortured his longtime friend to death by beating him, suffocating him with a plastic bag and slowly stabbing him in the neck over the span of six hours.
Jeremy Allen, 44, of East Quogue, near the Hamptons on Long Island, watched Christopher Hahn, 43, as he died from the hours-long torture, then tried to involve his handyman in cleaning his blood-stained home on September 27, 2024, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Allen and Hahn, who were friends with each other since high school, had been out at a bar together earlier that evening, prosecutors said.
The handyman ultimately called 911 after he arrived at Allen’s house and found the property covered in blood, as well as Hahn’s body with a blanket laid over it, according to prosecutors.
Now, Allen has been convicted of first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with Hahn’s death, the district attorney’s office said in a Thursday, January 22, news release.

His defense attorney, Colin Astarita, did not immediately return Us Weekly’s request for comment on Friday, January 23.
In a statement, District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said that Allen “betrayed a bond of friendship in the most horrific way imaginable, and today’s verdict holds him accountable.”
“The evidence presented at trial demonstrated the deliberate cruelty of his actions over the course of several hours,” Tierney said.
Allen began torturing Hahn shortly after midnight, after they returned to Allen’s house from a bar, on September 27, 2024, according to prosecutors.
Surveillance cameras on the outside of Allen’s home captured audio from the first 18 minutes of the torture, which involved Allen “brutally” beating Hahn, the district attorney’s office said.
Afterward, one of the cameras recorded Allen as he dragged Hahn, who was “bruised and semi-conscious,” out onto his back deck, according to prosecutors.
Allen left Hahn on the deck momentarily, then came back with a baseball bat, which he then used to smash his head and body, prosecutors said.
Allen, according to the district attorney’s office, knew Hahn “was alive and in distress” during the brutal beating.
Afterward, Allen’s home surveillance footage showed him leaving the deck and coming back with a plastic bag, which he secured over Hahn’s head, prosecutors said.
Allen, while sitting on a lawn chair, then watched Hahn suffocate for about eight minutes, according to prosecutors.

The torture ended with Allen stabbing Hahn in the neck with what prosecutors said was a large knife.
“He stood over the victim and watched as he took his last breaths,” the district attorney’s office said.
After Allen had his handyman come over to his property, Allen told the man that “he could not leave” because of the bloody scene he was a witness to, according to prosecutors.
The handyman, however, ultimately convinced Allen to let him leave and called law enforcement, prosecutors said. Allen was then arrested at his home.
It is unclear what led to the killing. The district attorney’s office did not specify a potential motive.
Allen is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole.
