DC studio head James Gunn and company have officially shared a first look at Jason Momoa's highly anticipated role in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Posting an introductory image of Momoa's character to Instagram, the short video shows the former DCEU actor heading into the film's makeup and costume department to undergo his physical transformation. Immediately afterwards, the video transitions to a short clip from Supergirl itself, showing Momoa's iconic antihero Lobo riding his trademark space-bike and chomping on a thick cigar.
Done up in a thin smear of white makeup with Gene Simmons-esque black eyeliner, Gunn's video teaser ends with Momoa letting out a deep-throated laugh, with Gunn simply stating in the post's caption, "Finally."
The reveal comes after months of fervent speculation as to what Momoa's Lobo might look as well, as well as his overarching role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Originally introduced to DC readers back in the summer of 1983, Lobo quickly became something of a cult classic character among comic book fans, many of whom embraced the visually striking appeal of the character compared to most other superhero strips.
Within the context of DC's expansive universe, Lobo first appeared as an alien bounty hunter and mercenary hailing from the planet Czarnia. Initially introduced as a straightforward villain, he eventually became a recurring antihero in the 1990s, leading to multiple appearances in both animated and live-action film and TV series adaptations.
While Momoa's Lobo is likely to play a pivotal role in Supergirl, his relationship to Milly Alcock's Supergirl is not yet known, with Mattias Schoenaerts' space pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills set to appear as the lead antagonist of the film.
Of course, the 46-year-old Momoa's role in the film marks the second comic book character he's portrayed in a DC live-action film. Previously, theGame of Thronesactor starred in the DC Extended Universe as Aquaman from 2016 to 2023, his final appearance in the franchise coming with the series' 15th and final release, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
