Four years after the death of Stephen “Twitch” Boss, the beloved DJ on The Ellen Show, Ellen DeGeneres is mourning the loss of another beloved member of the show’s family.
On Monday, November 2, the comedian choked back tears in a video tribute to Matthew Wright, who was the talk show’s executive producer and was well-known to fans, having appeared in many funny bits on the show. Wright died at age 52 in an “unfathomable tragedy” on October 30, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his family.
The fundraiser, which had raised half of its $50,000 goal on November 2, said that Wright died “while working remotely in Los Angeles” and that “his husband, father, sister and niece are in New York, desperate to be reunited for a proper goodbye.”

DeGeneres, who hosted her talk show for 19 seasons until 2022, said that she and Wright had just begun working on a new project together, cried as she said, “I’m so sorry, ’cause we lost a good guy. He was a good guy and he and Twitch were so close. So now he and Twitch are together, dancing and laughing.”
A montage of video clips featuring Wright appearing in hilarious sketches on The Ellen Show followed her tribute. Wright is survived by his husband, Justin, and many family members and friends.

The GoFundMe page created after Wright’s passing said, “As many of you know, Matt & Justin were both laid off this summer. And the unexpected costs of getting Matt home, a funeral and a memorial are impossible for the family to bear.”
According to Wright’s LinkedIn page, he spent over 15 years working on The Ellen Show. After the show ended, he worked for nearly a year as a consulting producer for The Jennifer Hudson Show as it got up and running, and then as Senior Supervising Producer for The Drew Barrymore Show.
