Popular Toddler Snacks Sold at Costco, Target and Walmart Recalled Over Potentially Deadly Choking Hazard

Parents are being urged to check their pantries after a popular toddler snack sold at major retailers nationwide was recalled over a potentially life-threatening choking hazard.

Once Upon a Farm has voluntarily recalled all varieties of its Tractor Wheels Organic Toddler Soft-Baked Bars following reports of serious choking incidents involving young children.

According to an Oct. 30 warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the agency received several reports of toddlers between 18 months and 2½ years old experiencing complete airway obstruction after eating the bars, leaving them unable to breathe.

The FDA says the snacks reportedly form a dry, sticky mass when chewed, which can be difficult to dislodge even with standard choking interventions. Some incidents required emergency assistance and hospital observation.

The recalled snacks were sold nationwide, including at Costco, Target and Walmart, as well as online.

Which Once Upon a Farm Snacks Are Recalled?

The recall affects all flavors of Once Upon a Farm Tractor Wheels Organic Toddler Soft-Baked Bars, including:

Apple, Sweet Potato & Spinach Strawberry, Pumpkin & Beet Banana, Pumpkin & Cauliflower

All package sizes, lot codes and expiration dates are included in the recall.

In an Oct. 30 announcement, Once Upon a Farm confirmed that the voluntary recall followed three consumer complaints.

“We acted out of an abundance of caution, in the best interest of our customers and our commitment to quality,” the company said, adding that it is working with the FDA to remove affected products from stores and provide information to families.

The company also confirmed that no other Once Upon a Farm products are affected by the recall.

What Should Parents Do With the Recalled Snacks?

The FDA advises consumers not to buy or serve any of the affected Tractor Wheels bars and to immediately throw away any they have at home.

Once Upon a Farm says customers can also return the recalled products to the retailer where they were purchased for a full refund or contact the company’s customer care team at [email protected].

The company says it is reformulating the Tractor Wheels products following the reported incidents.

In its recall announcement, Once Upon a Farm acknowledged the seriousness of the situation.

“We know that parents place their trust in us every time they buy one of our products. We fell short of that, and that is why we are taking these aggressive actions,” the company said.

Parents and caregivers can find the latest information on the FDA’s website. Anyone whose child experiences symptoms after consuming the recalled product should contact a healthcare provider. If a child is choking and cannot breathe, seek emergency assistance immediately.
