College football media had to do a total 180 in not a lot of time on Friday night as the first-round College Football Playoff game in Norman did a whole split personality thing.
First, it was Oklahoma dominating and taking a 17-0 lead over Alabama, and the whole narrative being that, just maybe, the Crimson Tide didn’t deserve to be in the Playoff after all. Then everything changed in the amount of time John Mateer could throw a pick-6, as Bama stormed back and tied the game at 17-17 at halftime.
It was too much for even some on social media to take, as the whole dynamic changed in a blink of an eye. It went from a total outrage toward Alabama and a referendum on Kalen DeBoer‘s status to some asking if maybe Oklahoma was the team who didn’t deserve to be in the Playoff.
Such is college football, and such is the nature of sports, and the 180-degree flip in a matter of minutes was what we got in the first 30 minutes in Norman. It was 2 quarters when crazy ruled, and who knows what we had in store for the 2nd half.
Here is just a sampling of the media reaction to the chaotic first half in Norman:
Oklahoma has taken a 31-7 game and turned into a 17-17 game.In the snap of a finger.
