8th JAPANESE ADULT SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Saturday, November 1st & Sunday, November 2nd Mie Kotsu G Sports Forest Suzuka LCM (50m) SwimSwam Entries ResultsThe 8th Japanese Adult Swimming Championships took place over the weekend with multiple domestic aces taking to the Mie Kotsu G Sports Forest Suzuka pool.
23-year-old Shiho Matsumoto collected multiple wins, including the women’s 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 50m free all on day one.
In the 50m back, Matsumoto stopped the clock at 29.09 to get to the wall first, beating out Mio Aotsuka and Anna Konishi who collected the minor medals.
Aotsuka nabbed silver in 29.75, just a hair ahead of Konishi who bagged teh bronze in 29.85.
Matsumoto’s 50m fly time checked in a 27.03 to get the edge over Olympic veteran Suzuka Hasegawa.
Hasegawa touched in 27.29, nearly a second ahead of bronze medalist Wakana Uemura‘s outing of 28.10.
Finally, the women’s 50m free saw Matsumoto punch a result of 25.37 to get the job done.
That garnered her the gold ahead of Yume Kamino (25.52) and Riru Kubota (25.70).
25-year-old Asian Games multi-medalist Waka Kobori was another multi-event winner over the course of the two-day affair.
Kobori topped the women’s 400m IM field handily, with her time of 4:45.04 beating the pack by over 12 seconds.
She also notched the 200 m IM victory by a large margin, with her time of 2:14.76 getting her to the wall over 3 seconds ahead of her competitors.
Hiroko Makino put her versatility on display, capturing victories across the 200m fly (2:10.36), 100m breast (1:08.22), 50m breast (31.15) and 100m fly (58.45).
The men’s side was highlighted by Yuya Tanaka‘s time of 52.72 in the 100m fly to beat national record holder Katsuhiro Matsumoto who settled for silver in 52.90.
Tanaka topped the men’s 50m fly field as well, notching 23.44 as the victor.
It was Genki Terakado, however, who won the 200m fly, posting 1:55.66. That overtook the previous meet record of 1:55.93 and he now ranks #3 in the world on the season.
