Mohammed Shami has put an end to his ongoing public disagreement with Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar. The issue had started when Shami had claimed that he was fit and hadn’t received an update from the selectors or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“About giving an update, it’s not my responsibility to give an update or ask for an update. It’s not my job to give updates on my fitness. My job is to go to the NCA (National Cricket Academy), prepare, and play matches. Woh unki baat hai unko kaun update deta hai, kisne nahin diya (That’s their matter who gives them updates or not). It’s not my responsibility,” Shami had said.
Agarkar had responded to the claim by saying that he’s had chats with Shami about his non-selection and will converse with him once again if he has any issues. But he reinforced that the BCCI medical team doesn’t think the veteran pacer’s ready for international cricket yet. Shami responded to this by saying, “Let him say whatever he wants.”
Damage control from BCCI
BCCI then sent RP Singh, the newly appointed selector from the Central Zone, to handle the situation. Shami was spotted having a chat with RP on the sidelines of the Bengal vs Gujarat match in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Shami stays mum afterwards
It looks like that chat between RP and Shami has worked wonders. After taking 8 wickets against Gujarat, including a 5-wicket haul in the second innings, Shami didn’t add any fuel to the fire. He jokingly stated that if he says anything, there will be a controversy.
“I always end up being in controversies—you (the media) have made me that kind of bowler. Mai bolunga to bawal ho jayega (If I speak, I will get in trouble). Now what can I say? I can’t even blame you; everyone does the same thing. On social media, people say anything they want,” Shami told reporters in Kolkata.
