A collection of random thoughts on the Chicago Bears (and the NFL) to help bridge the gap between college football Saturday and Sunday’s NFL slate.
It sure seems like things are lining up for Theo Benedet to make his first NFL start at right tackle in place of an injured Darnell Wright. Transitioning from an undrafted rookie who became a viral sensation on “Hard Knocks” to a starting NFL player is a fun story. More than that, starting in Sunday’s Bears game against the Raiders would be a testament to the hard work he has put in to get to this point. But it would be troubling to see Chicago’s second-round rookie (who is a right tackle by trade, mind you) not get the call when one of your starters goes down. Raiders defenders have compiled 7 sacks and 15 quarterback hits in three games. At first glance, those numbers are eye-opening. But four of those sacks (and nine of those QB hits) came in Week 1 against the New England Patriots. Maybe it is no coincidence that Vegas’ output slowed down against the Los Angeles Chargers (fifth-best OL via Pro Football Focus) and Washington Commanders (11th-best OL). This will be a major test for Chicago and its blockers, which come in at 20th on PFF rankings. — Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing.bsky.social) September 27, 2025 at 8:24 AM If the Bears can pull off a Sunday win in Vegas, it means I won’t have to spend the entirety of my bye week thinking about which college prospects make the most sense as possible targets in the 2026 NFL Draft. Also, a Bears win probably nudges me to push harder for a trade to bolster the running back position. New England Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel says he has spent hours studying the Carolina Panthers kickoff team, which is regarded as the best in the league right now. Can someone send Bears Special Teams Coordinator Richard Hightower whatever film Vrabel has at his disposal?
