On Tuesday morning we were treated to an early morning drop from Corey Pronman at The Athletic. He published his rankings of the top NHL players and prospects under the age of 23 (22 years old or younger as of Sept. 15, 2025 to qualify). That’s an important distinction because now we’re throwing names like Matty Beniers, Logan Cooley and Owen Power in with young guys like Connor Bedard, Macklin Celebrini and Adam Fantilli.
The good news: the Chicago Blackhawks had 11 players make the list of 173. Which is terrific — but we should expect a good number of future Blackhawks to appear on the list after Pronman ranked the Blackhawks’ U-23 pipeline second in the NHL last week.
Here’s where Pronman ranked the individual Blackhawks players/prospects with his tier:
Matt Krohn-Imagn ImagesTier 1: Elite Player
2. Connor Bedard, C
I will note that there were only two players qualified for Pronman’s list that he considers “Elite.” Bedard is joined by Celebrini, who is the top player on the list.
Tier 3: Bubble NHL All-Star and top of the lineup player
22. Artyom Levshunov, RHD
Levshunov is the fifth-ranked defenseman on the list, behind Luke Hughes, Zeev Buium, Matthew Schaefer and Sam Dickinson. Pronman ranks Levshunov ahead of Power (26) and Lane Hutson (34). I’m sure that will go over incredibly well with fans in Montreal.
Tier 4: Top of the lineup player
26. Anton Frondell, C
I have no doubt there will be the Sharks stans in our midst that will jump up and down and point out San Jose has three centers ranked before the Blackhawks’ second. Yes, Michael Misa (14) and Will Smith (19) are ranked ahead of Frondell. And I’m sure there will be someone, somewhere who will point out 2025 NHL Draft center selections Caleb Desnoyers (21) and James Hagens (24) are also ranked ahead of Frondell. That’s all fine. We’ll check back on these in four years.
Tier 5: Bubble top and middle of the lineup player
45. Frank Nazar, C
Again, this is one that had my attention. Pronman has never been a big Nazar fan, but has admitted Nazar has already proved him wrong to some degree. Pronman still has his skating only rated “Above Average” (I would think at least “High-End” would be appropriate). He does give Nazar a “High-End” for compete. The reason I say “we’ll check back on these in a few years” with Frondell is because there are players like Nazar that prove to be better than they’re credited early on. And I think Frondell’s physical tools could elevate him on the list in the near future.
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY SportsTier 6: Middle of the lineup player
80. Kevin Korchinski, LHD86. Sam Rinzel, RHD111. Sacha Boisvert, C113. Oliver Moore, C136. Mason West, C151. Colton Dach, C162. Roman Kantserov, RW
As I noted when we looked at how Pronman ranked the Blackhawks’ pipeline, having Rinzel where he is on the team-specific list — specifically below Korchinski — is interesting. Like Frondell, he could be a guy with some helium in his stock and might find himself significantly higher in future editions. Frankly, I don’t think the difference between Rinzel and Buium is big enough to rank 77 players between them.
Since the comparisons to the rebuild in San Jose aren’t going to go away any time soon, we’ll take note. The Sharks also placed 11 players on Pronman’s list, including five in the top 28 overall. But then there’s a gap to Nos. 71 and 73 before the final four rank at 115 and lower.
Utah placed ten players on the list, followed by nine for Anaheim.
