Even (ahem) 23 years into his third and final retirement from the NBA, Hall of Fame former Chicago Bulls shooting guard Michael Jordan continues to set bonkers records.
Online auction platform JOOPITER announced that a game-worn Jordan jersey from Game 3 of a classic 1998 NBA Finals, during the Bulls’ “Last Dance” run to its sixth title in eight years, has shattered the record for a game-worn jersey sale at auction, netting $12.26 million. Per Cllct Media, Jordan just broke his own prior 2022 record of $10.1 million, set for a Game 1 jersey from the same series against the Utah Jazz. Chicago won in six games.

— JOOPITER (@joopiteronline) September 30, 2026Jordan was on fire during his final playoff series for the Bulls.
Following an astounding fifth MVP season at age 35, the 14-time All-Star had to carry a massive burden for the Bulls. Scottie Pippen’s back injuries made him a shell of his typical two-way self, while an aging Dennis Rodman was traveling to wrestling tournaments during the series.
In 41.7 minutes a night, Jordan averaged 33.5 points on 42.7 percent field goal shooting and 81.4 percent free throw shooting, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.7 blocks a night. He was named Finals MVP yet again for his efforts, while further cementing his case as the best there ever was, the best there ever will be.
Michael Jordan has long been one of the great sources for devout hobbyists, with a still-robust market for his rarer trading cards. As far as collectible items go, it’s hard to beat a Finals-worn jersey.

Let’s zero in on Game 3 itself.
Utah actually enjoyed homecourt advantage in that series, and had split the first two contests with the Bulls. Pundits were speculating that the Bulls’ old core may have been running out of steam, with years and years of advanced postseason mileage on its odometer.
Then came Game 3.
At the time, it was the most dominant NBA Finals game ever, a 96-54 demolition in the first game of the series to take place at the United Center. Thanks to the marvels of YouTube, fans can enjoy the game in full here:
Jordan scored 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 10-of-11 shooting from the foul line, grabbed three rebounds, dished out two dimes, swiped one steal, and blocked a shot. He also notched his series-best plus-minus, +24. Pippen (10 points on 50 percent field goal shooting), Toni Kukoc (16 points — having been elevated to a starting role at power forward over Rodman), and reserve wing Scott Burrell (10 points on 80 percent shooting) were Chicago’s only other double-digit scorers.
Karl Malone scored a hyper-efficient 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 shooting from the charity stripe, logging a -21 plus-minus. No other Jazz player scored more than eight points. Utah’s other Hall of Famer, point guard John Stockton, proved surprisingly meek on offense, scoring two points on just 1-of-4 shooting from the floor.
Game 3 was a critical night in helping the Bulls reassert control of that series. And even then, it was the Finals’ only blowout win. The next three games, during which Chicago went 2-1, would be decided by an average margin of 2.3 points.
After Jordan’s fittingly brilliant Game 6 jumper over Utah counterpart Bryon Russell clinched the series and his legacy, he hung up his Nikes for the next three years. He eventually unretired for the second time with the Washington Wizards, where he submitted two more ground-bound seasons under Doug Collins. He never again would make the playoffs.
