For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Texas native Hudson Roybal has announced his commitment to attend Florida State University for the fall of 2027, taking the next step in both his academic and swimming careers. Roybal, who shows strength in mid-distance and backstroke events, currently competes for Marcus High School in Flower Mound and Metroplex Aquatics in Allen.
“After thoughtful consideration, I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue both my athletic and academic career at Florida State University. First and foremost, I want to give praise to God for providing me with such a privilege and making it easy for me to trust in the process. I would also like to thank all my family, friends, coaches and teammates who put such a strong support system behind me. Lastly, I want to thank the entire coaching staff at FSU for showing interest in me and wanting to turn me into a Seminole. GO NOLES!!!”
Roybal was a 2026 UIL 6A State Champion (SCY) in February as a junior representing Marcus High School, helping his team win both the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay. Roybal anchored the 200 free relay with a 20.35 split and led off the 200 medley relay with a 22.78 in the backstroke leg. Individually, he was the runner-up in the 100 back with a lifetime best of 48.51.
Roybal also recorded lifetime bests a couple of months earlier in December at the 2025 Speedo Winter Junior Championship—West (SCY), competing for Metroplex Aquatics in the 200 free (1:38.03), 500 free (4:28.76), and 200 back (1:45.61). Individually, he finished 10th in the 200 back and 22nd in the 200 free (1:38.46).
This past summer, Roybal was a Futures finalist (LCM) in Greensboro, placing 4th in the 200 back (2:05.41), 7th in the 100 back (57.82), 10th in the 50 back (27.17), and 13th in the 200 free (1:55.69).
