SOPHIE Cunningham has leaped to the defence of her sister after she was attacked on social media.
The WNBA star’s sister Lindsey and her mom Paula both slammed the league last week.
They took exception to a play where the Indiana Fever star was injured.
Cunningham collided with Connecticut Sun player Bria Hartley.
She received the devastating news this week that she’ll be out for the remainder of the season.
After Cunningham’s injury in Sunday’s game, her family was left furious.
Her sister Lindsey posted on X: “WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on your poor officiating & more about hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes. Pathetic.”
Cunningham has received multiple fines from the league this year for public criticism of officials.
Her sister Lindsey’s tweet was replied to by a fan.
It featured an image of Cunningham in an on-court brawl earlier this season.
And the message with it read, “Protect athletes, shut up b****.”
But the Indiana Fever player jumped in to defend her sister.
Cunningham said, “Some of us were raised by the words of ‘don’t bite off more than you can chew’ and some of us didn’t ‘fafo.'”
The WNBA player spoke about her injury on her Show Me Something podcast.
“I did tear my MCL and if you’re going to hurt your knee then that’s the best possible case,” Cunningham said.
“I think the league as a whole, but really us, we’ve just gone through so much adversity.
“Injury-wise, you can’t make this s*** up to be honest.
ESPNCunningham is out for the rest of the season with a torn MCL[/caption]“I was just in the paint, someone ran into my knee, and it just snapped.
“I don’t really like thinking about knee injuries but I felt a pop right away.”
Cunningham added, “I’m really in good spirits because I knew that I hurt myself pretty good.
“I’m just thankful to be where I’m at, with the organization and the girls because they have brought life and my love of basketball back.
“I really am in weirdly good spirits.”
