A tough day followed, after a tough defeat for Team India, against England in the first Test. The coach Gautam Gambhir though, has full clarity on what went wrong, and how the team can bounce back. He also clarified that there would be no change in plan, as far as Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management is concerned.
InsideSport takes a look at all the developments, that made the news.
Gautam Gambhir Blames Indian Batters
If you thought that the Indian bowling was responsible for the defeat in the first Test at Leeds, think again. The team suffered two collapses in as many innings, despite 5 centuries. Coach Gautam Gambhir rightly addressed the issue after the match. He said, “If we had got up to 570, 580 in the first innings, we could have dominated from there,” at the press conference.
Jasprit Bumrah Only for Three Tests
The Indian bowlers were rather ordinary, except for Bumrah. But that does not mean that the best bowler in the world would play any more than three Tests, as was decided earlier. Coach Gambhir clarified this, despite the result not going India’s way.
Sai Sudharsan Injured, India Left to Explore Options
It was widely reported on Wednesday, that India batter Sai Sudharsan suffered a shoulder injury on the final day of the match. But it isn’t clear if he would play in the 2nd Test or not. Given his failures, other options might be considered anyways. India have a chance to rope in someone like Abhimanyu Easwaran and Dhruv Jurel.
Career-high for Rishabh Pant
Undoubtedly, it was a major high for Rishabh Pant, who went on to score two tons in the match. That meant he climbed to seventh spot in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen. And it was also a career-high with regards to points. He now has 801 points to his name.
Indian Pacer Removed from Squad
Harshit Rana seems to be having some unpredictable days. The pacer has been removed from the squad in England, after being asked to stay back after the intra-squad match. It seems, there were some injury concerns in the team, which have vanished now.
Sunny G Speaks His Mind
Sunil Gavaskar isn’t impressed with the way the Indian team has played. He said, that is the time when the team needs to regroup and focus on the next match, after some rest. “Next couple of days you can take off, but now seriously get into practice. Leave this optional practice aside. You have come here to play for India. So, you practice in a way so that you will give yourself the best,” said Sunil Gavaskar, speaking on Sony Sports.
