As tax season arrives, the city of Greeley is reminding residents of its offer to provide financial relief for low-income residents impacted by the recently renewed food tax and water utilities.
The Low-Income Food Tax program was established in 1990 when the food tax was first implemented, to help offset the increased cost to low-income families. It provides qualifying applicants with a maximum $100 rebate per person in the household, which will be received by mail a month after filing.
The program has expanded to include a utility assistance credit for Greeley Water customer accounts. This one-time credit is applied to the residents’ water bills and was recently increased from $100 to $150 after the city raised the water rates by $15.02 per month on Jan. 1.
Applicants must be Colorado residents who lived in Greeley for at least 10 months in 2024 and can provide proof of residence. The applicant must also have a 2024 family income at or below a certain threshold, which for a family of four is $78,060.
Qualified family members are legal dependents claimed on federal form 1040. Applicants must provide a Social Security number for each family member included on their application.
Greeley residents can apply for the city’s Low-Income Food Tax and Utility Programs through May 31. Applications are available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Greeley City Hall, 1000 10th St., Monday through Friday.
