Kameron Baba is a senior majoring in marketing from Gadsden, Alabama, running for University of Alabama Homecoming Queen 2026.
Q: What are your involvements on and off campus?
A: While I’ve been on campus, I’ve been so honored to be able to join a wide variety of different on-campus and off-campus organizations. For my on-campus involvement. I’m a capstone woman here on campus, so I get to represent The University of Alabama to prospective students and families, giving them tours while also representing the University at different events around campus as well. I’m also involved in the Blackburn Institute here on campus, which is an organization that gives back to the Alabama community statewide as a whole, and then off campus, I’m a True40 instructor where I get to prioritize my physical well-being as well as others and promote that.
Q: What made you decide to run for Homecoming Queen?
A: The theme of my time here on campus has definitely been representation. I’ve been able to represent the university in all different facets, both on and off of our campus. And I knew that whenever this opportunity came to run for homecoming queen, that I was just excited to continue that, both representing our University of Alabama as a whole, but also represent our University of Alabama student body as well. So that’s what my whole campaign has been about: representing students and making sure they’re promoting their mental and physical well-being.
Q: What is your platform, and why did you decide to run on said platform?
A: Coming into college, my college experience honestly looked really unique from a lot of other students. I’m a first-gen student, and so I really didn’t have a roadmap for what The University of Alabama’s experience for myself would look like. Freshman year was really difficult, and the transition was far from easy. But leaning on the different resources, both on and off our campus, definitely made a huge impact on me, and so that’s what this entire campaign has been about, is making sure that students are prioritizing their mental and physical well-being. It’s so easy to forget that prioritizing those two things are so important, but you can have that alongside ambition, and that really creates that well-rounded experience here at the University, and so that’s what my entire platform has been about is making sure that students do have those resources both in on and off our campus. And it’s something that I’m excited to share not only this week but throughout the rest of my time here at the University.
Q: How have you served the community in your time as a student here?
A: I have been able to be a part of the Reading Allies program here on The University of Alabama’s campus, where I actually get to go in and mentor a student at Vance Elementary, and I get to help them with various literacy exercises. One thing that I’ve really learned through that is how important mentorship is, and even looking back to my freshman year, I believe that mentorship was something that really helped me. Having people older than me, that really showed me that mental and physical well-being are so important, and whenever you combine those and apply that to your life and to your well-being, it really makes all the difference. And so that has really been the theme of my service to the community, and it’s something that I’m excited to share throughout this week, and something I’m excited to share throughout the entire rest of this year as well.
Q: Why do you believe you’re the best choice for Homecoming Queen?
A: As I mentioned earlier, leadership and representation has definitely been a key part of my time here at The University of Alabama, whether I’m representing the University to prospective students and families, or through the Blackburn Institute, or even through the University of Alabama’s Capitol Scholars Program within Washington, D.C. where I got to represent our University of Alabama system, that has definitely been the key part of my involvement. And so, whenever I found out that this opportunity was available, I definitely knew that I wanted to continue that representation, but put it in a different way and represent our student body.
