Several parked vehicles and a Chicago police squad car were struck while on a popular stretch for shopping in the Loop by a stolen vehicle occupied by two people who are now in custody, authorities said on Wednesday.

Around 4:10 p.m., Chicago police officers responded to a report of a vehicular hijacking on Randolph in the Loop. The stolen vehicle, a Lincoln, was seen by officers shortly after traveling westbound on Randolph before striking a marked CPD squad car, a Ford and two parked vehicles near the intersection of North State Street and East Randolph Street.

Two people who were inside the stolen Lincoln when it crashed fled from the scene but were quickly taken into custody, police said.

Video shared on social media showed the aftermath of the crash and subsequent police response outside the shopping center Block 37, located at 8 N. State St., and within a stone’s throw of the historic James M. Nederlander Theatre, located at 24 W. Randolph St.

No one was injured, police said, and a handgun was recovered from the inside of the stolen car.

Charges are pending, according to authorities.
