Alabama women’s golf opened its season with a second straight tournament win, taking home first place Monday afternoon at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The win made head coach Lydia Lasprilla the first head coach in program history to open her tenure with two tournament wins as the Crimson Tide finished at 4-over-par, eight strokes ahead of second-place Arkansas at 12-over-par. The team has won its opening two tournaments to begin a season just once prior.
Alabama led the event wire-to-wire after an impressive start Friday, finishing with a 6-under-par 280. Junior and Division II Wingate University transfer Amely Bochaton was the difference for the Crimson Tide, as she posted a 6-under-par 66 in Saturday’s opening round on her way to a fourth-place finish.
Freshman Manon Petitcolas edged Bochaton and led the way for Alabama with a 5-under-par 211, which earned her a third-place individual finish. She has opened her Crimson Tide career impressively and was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Sept. 23 after recording a 9-under-par 207 and fourth-place finish at the Lady Paladin Invitational.
Senior and Washington State transfer Alice Johansson made her debut for the Crimson Tide this season and posted a top-10 finish. She ended the tournament tied for ninth place with a 6-over-par 222 after a 4-over-par 76 in her final round.
The Crimson Tide will return to the course Monday in the Haskins Intercollegiate in Columbus, Georgia, for a two-day tournament.
