Miley Cyrus’ ‘Bass Persuades’ Just Took the Biggest Fall Ever for a No. 1 Debut, Weeks After Nearly 1.5 Million Fans Lined Up for Her Hollywood Bowl Shows ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

You’d think a No. 1 album would hang around near the top for a while.

Miley Cyrus’ Bass Persuades debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last week. This week, it’s at No. 157.

That 156-spot fall is the biggest drop ever for an album in the week after a No. 1 debut. It comes weeks after nearly 1.5 million fans lined up in the presale queue for her two Hollywood Bowl shows, which are now less than two weeks away.

Her new label, Atlantic Records, went all out for the debut. It put the album out in 16 vinyl variants, nine CD versions, six download versions and a cassette, and it cut the digital price, according to one report. Before that push, the album was projected to debut outside the top five.

It worked, barely.

Bass Persuades opened with about 61,000 equivalent units, just 70 more than Ella Langley’s Dandelion. That’s a margin of about one-tenth of 1%.

It was Cyrus’ sixth No. 1 album, her first since Bangerz in 2013 and her first released as just Miley.

Celine Dion Set the Record in 2019

In 2019, Celine Dion set the record Cyrus just broke. Her album Courage debuted at No. 1, then fell to No. 111 the next week.

That fall also took Madonna’s record for the farthest drop from No. 1 by a woman. Her Madame X had gone from No. 1 to No. 77 earlier that year.

Bon Jovi’s This House Is Not for Sale once fell even farther, from No. 1 to No. 169, but that came after it climbed back to the top with help from a concert ticket bundle. It wasn’t the week after its debut.

Cyrus’ last album didn’t hang on long, either. Her 2025 album Something Beautiful opened at No. 4 with 44,000 units and slipped to No. 102 in its second week.

Taylor Swift Is Back on Top

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl returned to No. 1 this week for the first time since January, thanks to its new Encore edition. Langley’s Dandelion sits at No. 3.

It’s the same week Swift’s “Patient Zero” ended Langley’s record run atop the Hot 100.

‘People Will Come to Me’

Cyrus plays the Hollywood Bowl on Friday, Oct. 16, and Sunday, Oct. 18. They’ll be her first major shows since she played Mexico City’s Corona Capital festival in November 2022.

She told Zane Lowe in an interview that aired Sept. 17 that she picked the Bowl because her bed “was only going to be like a 10-minute drive home.”

She also called the shows “the ultimate dress rehearsal.” “I’ve learned now through the queue that my calculations are correct, and people will come to me. I don’t need to drive to you,” she said.

“This is proof of concept and potentially the beginning of something broader, but within your own terms,” she added.
