Tara Lipinski is back on the ice for a very personal reason: her three-year-old daughter, Georgie, has fallen in love with skating and now wants her mom to do her program with her.
The Olympic gold medalist, who retired from professional skating in 2002, recently shared a video of herself skating with Georgie and revealed that she never expected her daughter to take to the sport so quickly. Now Georgie has asked Lipinski to join her for her own skating program, giving the former champion a reason to step back onto the ice after more than two decades away.
“I thought my ice rink days were behind me but for her, I’ll happily keep coming back,” Lipinski wrote.
Tara Lipinski Never Expected Her Daughter to Love Skating This Much
View this post on InstagramLipinski explained that when she first brought Georgie onto the ice, she thought it would simply be a fun activity they could enjoy together from time to time.
Instead, Georgie quickly became hooked.
“When I first brought her on the ice, I honestly thought it would just be a fun thing we did every once in a while,” Lipinski wrote. “The biggest surprise has been how much she genuinely loves it.”
The three-year-old was even upset when it was time to leave the rink because she wanted to keep skating.
“When she looks at me and says ‘Mommy, I love skating with you’ my mind is blown,” Lipinski wrote.
And Georgie isn’t content with simply skating alongside her mom. She now wants Lipinski to do her skating program with her.
For Lipinski, that request has made the experience even more meaningful.

Tara Lipinski Was an Olympic Champion at 15
For longtime skating fans, Lipinski will always be remembered as the teenager who made history at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.
At just 15 years old, she won the gold medal in women’s singles, becoming the youngest individual Olympic gold medalist in history at the time.
Later that year, Lipinski turned professional, ending her amateur career and her eligibility for future Olympic competition. She continued skating professionally for several years, including performances with Stars on Ice, before retiring from skating in 2002.
Her competitive career was over, but skating eventually led her into an entirely different chapter.
How Tara Lipinski Became a Familiar Face on Television
After leaving professional skating, Lipinski transitioned into television and entertainment.
She eventually became one of NBC’s best-known figure skating analysts, working alongside fellow Olympian Johnny Weir and play-by-play commentator Terry Gannon during major skating competitions.
Over the years, she has also expanded beyond the sport, including an appearance on The Traitors.
But none of those accomplishments matter quite as much to Georgie.
To her daughter, Lipinski isn’t an Olympic champion or television personality. She’s simply Mom.
Georgie Has Given Tara Lipinski a New Reason to Skate
View this post on InstagramMore than two decades after Lipinski retired, she had no plans to make skating part of her life again in any formal way.
But watching Georgie discover the sport has changed that.
This time, there are no Olympic medals, judges or pressure to perform. Lipinski is simply sharing something that once defined her own childhood with her daughter.
And Georgie appears to be loving every minute of it.
Lipinski’s latest video isn’t about making a professional return. It’s about a mother watching her daughter discover a sport she knows better than almost anyone—and being asked to be part of the experience.
After spending years chasing the biggest prize in skating, Lipinski now has a much simpler reason to put on her skates.
Her daughter asked her to.
“I thought my ice rink days were behind me but for her, I’ll happily keep coming back,” Lipinski wrote.
