The last few minutes of Below Deck Mediterranean set up an explosive Season 11 finale that the crew won’t soon forget.

Just when stew Genevieve “Gen” Lillie thought it was safe to play nicely with everyone, deckhand Luke Brumer will give her a jump scare that will rock her world in the worst way possible.

Gen and Luke hooked up earlier in the season, even though Luke was more attracted to Chef Joy Lefaucheur.

But when Gen and Luke’s hookup happened in bosun Nathan Gallagher’s bed, they left behind “evidence” that Luke didn’t bring to Nathan’s attention until after Nathan had already slept in the sheets.

The tension toward Luke on deck was immediate. Nathan was furious, and even Captain Sandy Yawn said what Luke did was a fireable offense. Rather than continue dealing with the tension, Luke quit but continued to keep in touch with Joy, texting her and sending her flowers.

Throughout the season, Gen grew increasingly jealous that Luke was still interested in Joy, even lashing out at Luke after he sent Joy flowers. Gen also became increasingly negative, which began to isolate her from the rest of the crew. At one point, she even washed Joy’s clothes with the crew rags, which seemed to be the tipping point for everyone.

After Chief Stew Aesha Scott had a serious talk with Gen, she decided to turn over a new leaf for the final charter. Gen reached out to the entire crew, including Joy, and made a sincere effort to change her attitude. The crew noticed, with Aesha saying in a confessional that she was happy she didn’t give up on Gen.

But all those good vibes are about to be destroyed when Luke revealed in the final minutes of the penultimate episode to deckhand Joe Bradley that he plans to meet up with the crew during their final night on the town as a surprise to Joy.

Luke swears Joe to secrecy, to which Joe says in a confessional, “I know how much Luke cared about Joy. How sad he was to leave her. I just feel that outweighs completely what Gen might do.”

But as he hangs up the FaceTime call with Luke, Joe says, “Holy s—t, this is gonna cause some issues.”

And he’s not kidding.

The previews for the finale show how Gen reacts to Luke’s surprise and, needless to say, her reaction should come as no surprise to anyone.
