This week, Aaron welcomes UNC law professor Eric Muller, whose new book blends history and fiction in an innovative way to enhance a new perspective on the disturbing history of Japanese internment camps in the U.S. during World War II.
Now out from UNC Press, the book is titled “Lawyer, Jailer, Ally, Foe: Complicity and Conscience in America’s World War II Concentration Camps.” Its focus is on a group of people that not many of us are even aware of: the government-appointed attorneys who worked at the camps and represented the detainees in legal proceedings, many of whom were sincerely devoted to helping their clients and fighting injustice – even while serving as a mechanism in a deeply unjust system.
