Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said on Monday, August 17, 2026, that Egypt’s foreign policy is guided by a balanced vision that takes national security considerations into account and places the national interest at the top of its priorities, amid successive crises and rapid geopolitical shifts regionally and internationally.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with heads of Egyptian diplomatic missions abroad, attended by ambassadors recently appointed to overseas posts, ministry officials and heads of relevant sectors.
The meeting was held as part of efforts to strengthen institutional communication with Egyptian missions abroad, discuss foreign policy priorities, review the performance of embassies and consulates, and explore ways to improve consular services for Egyptian communities overseas.
Abdelatty underscored the pivotal role of Egyptian missions abroad as a key pillar in implementing the country’s foreign policy and protecting its interests overseas. He highlighted ongoing efforts by the ministry to develop its work system, reorganize its structures and improve performance mechanisms to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
He also highlighted the ministry’s focus on training and developing diplomatic and administrative personnel through specialized capacity-building programs to ensure they can keep pace with rapid changes in the nature of diplomatic work and growing regional and international challenges.
The Foreign Minister also underlined the growing economic role of Egyptian missions abroad, stressing the need to step up efforts to attract foreign investment, open new markets for Egyptian exports, increase trade and promote Egypt’s promising investment opportunities and potential.
He reviewed the state’s efforts to improve the business environment and enhance the private sector’s participation and role in driving economic growth, stressing the importance of leveraging the missions’ extensive network of relations to support the country’s economic and development priorities.
Abdelatty also outlined the constants and priorities of Egypt’s foreign policy on regional and international issues, stressing the need for Egyptian missions to intensify communication and coordination with host countries and various decision-making circles and explore new avenues for cooperation.
Such efforts, he said, should serve common interests, enhance Egypt’s ability to effectively respond to international developments and safeguard its development gains.
On supporting Egyptians abroad, Abdelatty said improving services provided to citizens remains a top priority for the ministry and its missions.
He reviewed steps being taken to modernize the consular system and expand the use of digital solutions to streamline procedures and improve the quality of services.
The minister directed Egyptian missions to maintain regular, direct communication with members of Egyptian communities abroad, listen to their concerns and suggestions, and inform them of the initiatives and services provided by the state and the Foreign Ministry to strengthen their ties with their homeland.
The meeting also featured an extensive discussion between Abdelatty and heads of Egyptian missions on proposals and ideas for improving working methods, strengthening coordination between diplomatic missions and various ministry sectors, and raising performance efficiency in line with the requirements of the current phase.
The discussions also addressed ways to maximize the impact of Egypt’s diplomatic efforts and advance the country’s national interests.
