Law enforcement in McHenry County was investigating a boat crash along the Fox River that left a woman dead on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
A stretch of the river near South Fernwood Lane was closed following the crash around 2:30 p.m. A middle-aged woman was killed when the boat she was riding in was struck by another boat, authorities said.
Video from the scene showed damage to the boat’s left side as it was being hauled away.
Details were limited on Sunday – though police could still be looking for the driver of the boat in question.
One man was arrested overnight for reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence, but officials haven’t made a connection to the crash.
Illinois Sen. Craig Wilcox alerted his followers on social media to the crash, posting a statement on Saturday night that read, in part, “Please keep your eyes open for anyone who may be injured and appear to be a boater that is out of place. Call the police even if you have just suspicions.”
