North Carolina star wide receiver Jordan Shipp had the stage on Friday at ACC Kickoff in Charlotte just like his uber famous head coach Bill Belichick did.
Shipp lived last season’s 4-8 nightmare in Chapel Hill right along with Belichick, who brought his 8 career Super Bowl victories down South but couldn’t quite get UNC football off the ground in his highly publicized first season. The Heels went just 2-6 in the ACC, and there were even random reports last fall that Belichick wouldn’t even make it through the season.
In the end, Belichick did make it through, and on Friday he spoke to reporters about the state of affairs for the Tar Heels going into Year 2. Shipp spoke, too, and he had his coach’s back as he discussed what North Carolina went through as a football team in 2025.
“Nobody else was going to be rooting for us. Everybody wanted to see Coach Belicick fail, and it was just like we knew that we were in this by ourselves,” said Shipp, who still managed to put up 60 catches for 671 yards and 6 touchdowns last season despite the team’s overall struggles.
Belichick had his own discourse with reporters on Friday in Charlotte, talking about how things would hopefully be a lot different in Year 2. But Shipp’s words showed the brutal reality of what the Tar Heels faced last season as Belichick tried to launch his collegiate coaching career after so much success in the NFL.
Belichick’s first year in Chapel Hill didn’t quite go as planned, but he’ll be hoping to point the Tar Heels in the right direction in 2026. Whether that means contending or not for a College Football Playoff berth, Kalshi has its own current projections for which teams have the best odds to be Playoff-bound this fall:
