Meleek Thomas, Trevon Brazile selected with back-to-back picks in NBA Draft ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Meleek Thomas and Trevon Brazile took over the second round of the NBA Draft on Wednesday night in Brooklyn, with the former Arkansas stars owning the spotlight on ESPN for a spell by being drafted back-to-back.

First, it was the Cleveland Cavaliers getting Thomas with the 34th pick overall and the 4th pick of the second round. The guard from Pittsburgh spent just 1 season in Fayetteville, but he made it count, helping the Hogs get all the way to the Sweet 16.

Thomas had plenty of help this past season as part of a loaded Arkansas team, and it has showed on both nights of the draft. While Razorbacks fans celebrated Thomas’s selection, there was another one from Arkansas following right behind, with the forward Brazile going at No. 35 overall to the Denver Nuggets.

Together with star guard Darius Acuff Jr. being picked at No. 7 to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, it meant John Calipari’s program boasted 3 of the top 35 picks of this draft.

Arkansas’s social media account was a busy one on Wednesday night, celebrating the selections of Thomas and Brazile in a matter of minutes.

While Thomas was heading to the Midwest to start his NBA career with a Cavs team coming off a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, Brazile was off to the Rocky Mountains to play for a Nuggets franchise that has become a perennial championship contender, winning it all in 2023.

Thomas averaged 15.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists during his only season of college basketball, shooting 41.6% from 3-point territory for Arkansas.

While Thomas only spent 1 season in Fayetteville, Brazile was at Arkansas for 4 seasons after transferring from SEC rival Mizzou. The Missouri native transferred to Arkansas after spending the 2021-22 season at Mizzou.

Brazile averaged 13.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists last season at Arkansas, also chipping in with 1.5 steals and 1.6 blocks per contest for the Razorbacks.

On Wednesday night, Thomas and Brazile, who were together for 1 special season at Arkansas, were reunited one more time by being consecutive picks in the second round of the NBA Draft.

Arkansas lost a ton of talent from last season’s team, but the Razorbacks will be reloading for a shot at another national championship run next season.
